Victoria Launches Sapa Homestay

Sapa’s Muong Hoa Valley is pure magic with picturesque hillscapes, emerald rice paddies and mountain streams.

Victoria is pleased to announce the Victoria Homestay Experience, a wonderfully restful H’mong home right in the hills of Sapa where guests are cared for by English-speaking hosts and can immerse themselves into the region’s stunning beauty of both Nature and People.

The Victoria Homestay Experience begins from Sapa town with a trek to the village of Cat Cat, hiking through some of the most picturesque valleys in the region. The route offers a chance to explore one of Sapa’s less-traversed areas, featuring gentle inclines and emerald fields of rice above a deep river gorge. After a refreshing rest stop by the river bank, the hike continues further through the villages and terraces of the Black H’mong towards the village of Lao Chai.

The beautiful textiles of the Black H’mong are among some of the most recognized around the world. Over a soothing cup of tea, a local expert will lead a hands-on master class on the traditional art of Batik painting. The class is not only fun, but it’s also part of a sustainable tourism project that supports local women and helps ensure this fascinating art form is handed down to the next generation.

Guests stay in the hills of Sapa overnight, at the home of Mrs. Moo and her family, located between the Black H’Mong village of Lao Chai and the Giay village of Ta Van. Set on the side of a hill 500 meters off the main track and right amongst the rice terraces, the home enjoys expansive views of the valley and river below.

The evening is spent enjoying a traditional herbal foot bath and watching the sun set over the rice terraces…

before sitting down to a H’mong-style dinner that was prepared over an open fire.

One of the joys of this homestay is being able to learn about H’mong life and culture directly from the hosts.

After watching the sun rise over the terraces, a simple but tasty breakfast awaits before being transferred back to Sapa town.

The Victoria Homestay Experience allows guests to immerse themselves in the simple, rustic pleasures of Sapa – where stunning nature meets humble cultures – while enjoying the familiar Victoria touches.

The Victoria homestay includes:

    • Victoria linen and amenities including bathroom and shower amenity kit, slippers and, in winter months, hot water bottle and extra blankets
    • H’Mong-style dinner prepared over an open fire

    • Breakfast

    • Local herbal foot bath
    • 2 complimentary bottles of water
    • Participation into local community development

There are two ways to enjoy the Sapa Homestay Experience: (1) Simply enjoy your time relaxing with your hosts and taking in the scenery, courtesy of a transfer directly to the homestay from the town of Sapa, or (2) get out into the countryside with a trekking excursion of the Muong Hoa Valley and returning to the homestay in the late afternoon. The trek requires an average level of fitness and includes approximately 7 hours of walking (13 km) and 30 minutes of driving. For more, please click here.
