Day 1
CHAU DOC – LONG XUYEN
At 10:00 am, your crew welcomes you at the Victoria Chau Doc Hotel jetty with cold towels and a refreshing drink. Your private Song Xanh sampan then sets off towards Long Xuyen. Visit a vegetable garden before cruising along a narrow canal past peaceful villages.
Visit Tiger Island (Cu Lao Ong Ho), a small island that was once the home of Vietnam’s second president Ton Duc Thang. Take a stroll around the park surrounding the museum.
Lunch and dinner are served on board. Enjoy your first night on board the Song Xanh on the Hau River.
Day 2
LONG XUYEN – SA DEC
Breakfast is served on board at 7:00 am while your sampan cruises downstream to visit a Cao Dai temple. Lunch is served on board.
Arrive in the charming town of Sa Dec, stroll around town to observe the architectural influences from French colonial times as well as the large Chinese and Khmer communities that were established here. Its diverse heritage is reflected in a Cao Dai temple, a Catholic church, a Chinese temple, and Vietnamese pagodas. Visit one of Sa Dec’s highlights: the ancient house of Huynh Thuy Le, the real-life inspiration for the male protagonist in Marguerite Duras’s celebrated novel, “The Lover”. A candlelit dinner awaits at this dramatic house.
Enjoy your second night aboard the Song Xanh on the Mekong River.
Day 3
SA DEC – CAI BE
Begin cruising towards Cai Be at 6:00 am. As your crew serves breakfast on board, observe daily life unfolding along the riverbanks. Later, travel by rowing sampan through peaceful, narrow canals. Stop at various points along the way for a look into some of the region’s cottage industries: a brick factory and local workshops producing coconut candy and puffed rice (the local equivalent of popcorn), small home-based businesses that provide a living for local communities.
Your cruise ends at Le Longanier Restaurant. Lunch is served in this exquisite colonial-style villa set in a lush tropical garden by the river, surrounded by fruit orchards, a glimpse into the Indochina of yesteryear.
